Welcome to Carriages Knaresborough

Located on the High Street in a property dating back some 400-years, Carriages is an independent, family run bar and restaurant. Depending on the season, our food and menu options include classic gastro-pub food with a modern twist, great Sunday roasts and a wonderful lunch, tapas, and small plates menu. Tasty, well presented and using the best locally sourced, seasonal ingredients.

In addition, we have a great selection of craft beers, small batch spirits, cocktails, and a mighty selection of over 25 wines, many available by the glass.

Food and drinks are served in the cosy, dog friendly 18th-century bar and restaurant areas or outside in the best heated and part covered al fresco area in the town with great views of Knaresborough’s iconic railway station.

Just had the best Sunday lunch here! I have always been disappointed if eating out for Sunday lunch, and end up wish I’d made my own, until today! Really fresh, served hot, lovely taste gravey, it was delicious 😋 only down side, I was too full for dessert! I had the vegetarian option (butternut squash and beetroot Wellington) and husband had the farm yard (pork, beef and chicken). Would definitely recommend.

Outstanding food, service and atmosphere! In a separate dining area, there was ample room for our extended family of 12. The lighting was ambient and cosy, and the food was both delicious and well presented. Vick and her team provided first class service. All in all, we couldn’t have wished for a better venue for our Christmas family celebration.

Would not reccomend the gluten free roast all they do to make it glutne free is remove the yorkshire puddings which is arguably the best bit. To make it worse they do not offer any reduction in price despite serving less food. Rest of the food was ok but a bit cold and bland.

We got off the train at Knaresborough and wanted a warm cosy place to eat. This pub is just up the road from the station, it was open and had a fire going! Perfect. The staff were helpful and friendly. The food was delicious 😋 thanks

Nice little spot with staff who are very helpful. We went with a big party and think we pushed them to their limits with the amount of servings they could do at once. But they did well and the food came out in a decent amount of time. It seemed to be all freshly prepared and tasted really good. The veggies were a little different with nice sweet carrots and parsnips. The cut of pork was different to what you often get and one I much preferred, possibly belly with some great flavour. One pork was a bit dry but others were good.We sat out the back which was a nice area that had the train station over the back so the kids got very excited every time a train pulled up which was nice. The dogs enjoyed themselves as well. All in all a very nice experience.

In the Kitchen

Our Head Chef and his team comes with some serious credentials, and makes Carriages the culinary heartbeat of Knaresborough both for the local community and visitors. In the colder months we specialise in classic gastro-pub food with a modern twist, great Sunday roasts and a wonderful lunch menu.

In the warmer months we take full advantage of the towns best outdoor area and our European Chefs, to offer fantastic Small Plates (served Tapas style) supplemented by more substantial seasonal main courses, specials and deserts.

Our food is always cooked to order from the freshest ingredients and our small team work hard to produce the tastiest results however we have a small kitchen and would ask for your patience at busy times. Finally, we cater for people with special dietary needs including many gluten free dishes, vegetarian and vegan options.
